Australian Design Centre Living Treasure:
Masters of Australian Craft / Prue Venables

Living Treasures: Masters of Australian Craft is an initiative of the Australian Design Centre. The series aims to celebrate the achievements of Australia’s most iconic crafts practitioners who have demonstrated more than three decades of excellence in their chosen discipline.

The ninth artist in this prestigious series, Prue Venables’ sculptural artworks possess a sense of clarity, luminosity and a quiet beauty. The works in this exhibition explore the significance of everyday objects through multiple sequences of forms in porcelain, with additional elements in metal and wood. The forms are simple and elegant, with a minimal colour palette creating a distinctive visual language.

Filmed at Prue’s home studio in Castlemaine, Victoria, this documentary film offers a glimpse into the work and practice of one of Australia’s most highly acclaimed ceramicists.

Living Treasures: Master of Australian Craft / Prue Venables is showing in Gallery One until 7 July 2021.

Film produced by Angus Lee Forbes for the Australian Design Centre.
