Experience an intensive one-on-one session in the glass studio…practice glass blowing techniques taught by experienced practitioners in a professional environment. Participants then design and make their own glass piece whilst developing skills in gathering, forming and design.

Team Glass Blowing

This course is an ideal introduction to hand building ceramics. This course will cover various aspects of ceramic practice, from coil and slab construction, to firing, glazing and decorating. Intermediate Wheel Throwing

This course will build upon and extend participants skills and knowledge using the potter’s wheel. It will cover various stages of wheel work, with an emphasis on production of multiple objects, as well as working toward the refinement of participants abilities. This course is suitable for those with some experience in throwing and those wishing to further develop their skills. All materials supplied.

Ceramic Decoration and Surface Treatment

This course introduces participants to basic surface treatment techniques in ceramics. Participants will try a number of decoration
methods following practical demonstrations, with the aim of creating a finished piece by the conclusion of the course. Participants
will gain experience handling clay, using different decorating tools and materials, learn basic glazing methods, familiarise
themselves with kilns and studio equipment, and acquire a contextual understanding of
how these techniques have been used by other ceramicists. This course is suitable both for beginners and people wishing to extend
their knowledge from Introduction to Wheel Throwing and Introduction to Hand Building. All materials supplied.

Metal Workshops

Introduction to Silver Jewellery Making
$385

Designed for the absolute beginner, this seven class course teaches participants basic silver jewellery making skills such as sawing, filing, soldering, riveting, forming and roller embossing. Participants will design and make their own jewellery pieces including a ring and brooch or pendant. The course is held in JamFactory’s Metal Design Studio by skilled tutors enabling participants to learn jewellery making skills and techniques in a professional studio environment. All necessary materials are supplied; some students may choose to purchase extra silver in addition to these.

Level 2: Silver Jewellery Making

This course is designed for students who have completed the beginner’s course or have some prior knowledge of jewellery making. Improve your skills and learn new techniques under the guidance of skilled tutors in a professional studio.

Working with wax workshop
$285

During this 2-class workshop participants will be introduced to carving and manipulating wax, which will be sent off to industry to be cast using the lost wax casting technique. Once castings have returned, they will be cleaned up and turned into wearable pieces using traditional jewellery making techniques.

No previous jewellery experience is required for this class, but if you have some basic jewellery fabrication skills, this workshop will add to them and give you more practical and innovative techniques to create with metal, while also providing you with contacts and lots of tips and tricks for casting projects in the future.

There will be additional charges for the casting fee and the silver/metal that is used for your pieces, which is dependent on the metal price for the day.

Spoon making workshop
$325

This specialised 1-day workshop will give you the opportunity to learn and experience the processes involved in making spoons. Each participant will make a silver teaspoon as well as couple of brass examples. Traditional flatware techniques will be discussed and alternatives to traditional methods will be shown. Some techniques that will be covered are forging, pressing, soldering, planishing and finishing of work. All materials are supplied including the silver and brass. Some strength is needed for the class, as we will be doing some repetitive hammering and bending.

Flush Stone Setting workshop
$185

Flush setting is a method of setting a stone flush to surface of metal, where a fine ridge of metal is pushed over the edge of a stone. This workshop starts with you making a simple jewellery piece such as a ring or pendant, to be later set with a faceted stone. Once the jewellery piece is completed you will be instructed in the anatomy of a faceted stone, measuring, marking, drilling the housing and then setting the stone. All materials are supplied including the stones (cubic zirconias) and silver. Should you wish to set any other stones, please feel free to bring them along for discussion. The best size for this technique is 1.5mm-3mm, stones should be faceted and round, being at least 7 on the MOHS scale, ie: tourmalines, sapphires, diamonds etc.

This workshop is suited to the intermediate jeweller; previous experience in jewellery making is needed. It is not suitable for anyone who hasn’t soldered or used beginner’s jewellery techniques before.

Basic Mount Construction and Bezel Stone setting workshop

This 2-day workshop will give you the opportunity to add some colour to your jewellery using semi-precious gemstones. The type of setting that will be covered is a bezel setting that will house a cabochon stone. Each participant will make a ring with a bezel mount and then set the stones in them. All materials including stones and silver are supplied.

This workshop is suited to the intermediate jeweller; previous experience in jewellery making is needed. It is not suitable for anyone who hasn’t soldered or used beginner’s jewellery techniques before.

Claw/Prong Stone Setting Workshop

This workshop will give you the opportunity to make a claw/prong setting that can house a semi-precious gemstone. During this jam-packed day, you will have the chance to make a ring or pendant using this technique.
All materials, stones and silver are included in this workshop; should you have a stone you wish to use, please bring it along for consideration in your piece.

You will need beginner level experience and have completed the Beginner’s Jewellery course here at the JamFactory or something similar. This workshop is not suitable for anyone who hasn’t soldered or used beginner’s jewellery techniques before.

Cold enamelling
$225

Cold enamelling is a technique of using resin to add colour to silver jewellery pieces without having to learn and master all the intricacies needed for traditional enamelling. During this one-day workshop, participants will make a simple jewellery piece such as a ring or pendant in sterling silver that can house the coloured resin.

All tools and materials, including silver and resin will be supplied for the workshop. Beginners most welcome to book in, no experience necessary.
