THE HAND CARVED KITCHEN
SUNDAY 7 OCTOBER
10AM - 4PM
Join professional Spoonsmith, Jeff Donne, for a hands-on day of carving your own beautiful kitchen utensils using a small axe, some specialised carving knives and your hands. Carve spoons, butter spreaders, spatulas or spurtles straight from a tree using traditional skills and experience the blissful feeling of whittling away the hours at an unhurried pace.
This workshop will guide you through the stages of axe work and knife work. Learn about sourcing sustainable materials, the basics of traditional tool use, and how to safely turn a log of sustainably sourced native timber into your favourite wooden utensil.
Suitable for adults (16+). All skill levels welcome, no experience needed. All materials, tools and apron provided. Participants are required to wear covered shoes.
ABOUT THE SPOONSMITH
Jeff Donne is one of Australia's best known spoon carvers with many years of carving and teaching under his belt. He teaches the traditional method of spoon carving where a small axe and knife are used to slice away layers of wood from a freshly cut log. It's pure analogue bliss!
Based in Pambula on the beautiful NSW Sapphire Coast, Jeff's roving Spoon School is often found roaming the land from Tassie to Alice Springs.
When he's not teaching, he's crafting, using only simple hand tools and a sprinkling of lost ways to make a range of soulful goods. Shaping wood by hand for the sake of happy growing and eating is something that Jeff likes to share, so he also passes these skills onto others through a range of little workshops to suit everyone from beginners up.
