Metal Studio

Established in 1992, the Studio is an incubator for emerging Associate talent offering fully professional design and creative services, spanning three main areas; design and manufacture of private, corporate and public commissions, research and development for collaborative studio products and exhibitions and educational programs that include the delivery of artist-led workshops.

The Creative Director and Associates work collaboratively in all areas of studio activity while also pursuing development of their own creative practice. A supportive environment encourages a diversity of skill and vision, allowing the Studio to embrace a full spectrum of contemporary practice in metal craft and design. Supporting projects that range from the intimate scale and personal associations of jewellery, to domestic interior objects, through to architectural scale public art and design works, the studio draws on a fund of specialist craft skill knowledge, matched with an in-house technical manufacturing capacity and a network of local industry contacts. The local, national and international community is involved via a range of initiatives. Our workshop program invites the local community to learn from, and engage with, contemporary craft practitioners.

Regular exhibitions present Associates to audiences and markets while raising their profile within the craft and design scene. National and international artist-residencies and visits provide creative inspiration and encourage exchanges of knowledge, ideas and experience.
