Organic materials, primarily plant matter, have provided me with an endless source of inspiration for my jewellery design.
I have used cast prickly pear cactus skeletons in some of my work. I like the idea of the original organic structure being replaced with metal. Replacing something fragile and impermanent with the durability and strength of cast metal. This also means each piece is unique. The cactus skeleton is a beautiful structure that is, to most people, not readily identifiable. I enjoy the thought that the viewer may be intrigued as to exactly what has been used to create the piece.
