Susan Frost – Artist Statement

Growing up, most of my experience with ceramics was in relation to food.  From breakfast to dinner, ceramics performed the function of serving and containing what I was about to eat.  It was fairly utilitarian, I didn’t think much about it, it certainly didn’t add to the meal I was eating.  Today, the functionality of ceramics has stayed with me but now I also look to form and decoration to enhance the experience.  I have discovered how important it is to care about what you put that lovingly prepared meal into.   I subscribe to the idea of having the favourite cup for that first brew of the day or the bowl that holds the perfect amount of hearty stew.  The ceramics I make I want to be used and enjoyed and relaxed with.
