I believe that you have to follow a passion at some point in your life; mine is to make furniture. I design furniture that has a purpose; it has a function and is to be used in daily life. Its form follows function and the pieces will have clean and uncluttered lines whilst maintaining structural integrity and the user’s confidence. I do not adorn the pieces with extra detail or complicated shapes; my style is to keep it simple. My furniture speaks for itself with its shape, colour, texture and features of the timber having the loudest voice. I will use colour where it enhances the piece or a ‘statement’ is to be made. Primarily I use timber and timber products, using other materials that add to the unique contemporary design. Sustainability of timber is a factor in my designs and I employ efficient construction methods, although traditional methods prevail as they are tried and tested. Each piece of furniture will have a story – “Provenance” - and be bespoke and unique. Ultimately, if my furniture makes a person stop and say “Ahh…… “; success! |
